The Color Explosion: Nineteenth Century American Lithography from the Jay T. Last Collection
Date: Saturday October 17, 2009 - Monday January 11, 2010 Location: Boone Gallery “The Color Explosion: NineteenthCentury American Lithography from the Jay T. Last Collection” will explore how a single form of printing—color lithography—changed American values, influenced the look and function of advertising, educated a rising middle class, and brought art to the masses. Filled with rich social commentary about 19thcentury America, “The Color Explosion” will examine history, idealism, and popular culture, focusing on how and why color lithography shaped an era. Drawn from the Jay T. Last collection of lithographic history and ephemera, the exhibition will feature artifacts that illustrate economic, social, and cultural transformations, from advertising posters to children's toys, from sheet music to trade cards.
