Musical Theatre Guild'S Broadway In Concert Series Presents Fade Out / Fade In
Date: Sunday, November 15, 2009 Time: 3:00 PM Price: $39.00 Location: Janet and Ray Scherr Forum Theatre Comden and Green, who tackled 1920’s Hollywood with their classic “Singin’ In the Rain," moved up a decade to the 1930’s with this hysterically funny 1964 treat. Originally staring Carol Burnett as a chorus girl full of hope, but not much talent, the show spoofs many of the film stars of the era. The score is pure Jule Styne brass. (A side note: for many weeks, FADE OUT actually out-grossed both HELLO DOLLY! and FUNNY GIRL!) 45th Anniversary Celebration! The Musical Theatre Guild – THE MTG WAY -- We are often asked: "So what exactly is a ‘concert staged reading’ and why are the actors holding their scripts?" First, let us explain what our mission is. The Musical Theatre Guild was founded over ten years ago by a dedicated group of professional musical artists who were interested in exploring and preserving works from the musical theatre repertoire that were either forgotten, neglected or unfairly dismissed. Our goal is to gather the finest talent available and to present the work in as close to the original form as possible. In order to do that within our budgets and to keep ticket prices at a reasonable level, we have found that the concert staged reading form works best. Our special agreement with Actors’ Equity allows us to focus on the script and the score, eliminate unnecessary production values, and streamline the entire rehearsal process into one focused long weekend. This enables us to take the risk to present works that other theatres would not dream to schedule and feature some of the finest talent in Southern California on our stage. The Los Angeles Times exclaimed, "The Musical Theatre Guild fills one of the most distinctive niches in L.A. Theatre" and the Los Angeles Drama Critic Circle just honored us with the Margaret Harford Award for distinguished achievement in the theatre.
