La Cámara Oscura
Date: Wednesday December 16, 2009 Time: 7:30 PM Price: $6.00 General; $5.00 Members and Full-Time Students West Coast premiere! Watch this hauntingly beautiful, naturalistic depiction of Jewish immigrants to the Pampas of Argentina during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In the film, young Gertrudis (Mirta Bogdasarian) is rejected by her mother for representing what is ugly in the new land. Gertrudis retreats into a rich fantasy life, until an itinerant photographer helps her understand the beauty in all things hidden in plain sight. Directed by María Victoria Menis and based upon a short story by noted Argentine writer Angélica Gorodischer. Director invited; check back here in the coming weeks for confirmation. (Argentina, 2008, 85 min. No MPAA rating. In Spanish and Yiddish with English subtitles.)
